In the Global Information Technology Report 2007-2008, released by the World Economic Forum (WEF),
Switzerland has advanced into 3rd place from 5th last year. Denmark and Sweden rank 1st and 2nd,
and the USA and Singapore 4th and 5th respectively.
According to the authors of the report, Switzerland's high level of information and communication
technology (ICT) is powered by its first-class business environment, and its focus on education
and innovation, which are not only key for enhancing networked readiness, but also for laying the
foundations for sustainable growth.
The WEF Global Information Technology Report examines how prepared countries are to use ICT
effectively on three dimensions: the general business, regulatory and infrastructure environment
for ICT; the readiness of the three key stakeholder groups – individual, business and government –
to use and benefit from ICT; and the actual usage of the latest information and communication
technologies available.
