However worldwide, Switzerland ranks fourth. Switzerland among the most innovative countries Switzerland continues to be among the world's most innovative countries. According to the 2007 report of the European Innovation Scoreboard (EIS), Switzerland ranks 2nd behind Sweden followed by Finland, Israel, Denmark, and Japan. Switzerland number one on 2008 Environmental Performance Index Switzerland tops the global list of countries ranked by environmental performance, according to the 2008 Environmental Performance Index (EPI), published by a team of environmental experts at Yale and Columbia Universities. Switzerland ranks 9th in 2008 Index of Economic Freedom Switzerland is among the top countries in the 2008 Index of Economic Freedom, published by The Heritage Foundation and the Wall Street Journal.
